Demonstrating Compassion in the Fight Against the Epidemic: Fundraising Campaign by the Shanghai Municipal Institute of Housing and Architectural Design

　　At the beginning of the Year of the Rat in the Gengzi cycle, as the outbreak of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus infection gripped the hearts of everyone, the Party, administrative, and trade union organizations of Shanghai Municipal Housing Architectural Design Institute Co., Ltd. promptly issued the “Call for Donations to Combat the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic” on January 30, 2020. The call urged all Party members and employees of the institute to earnestly respond to the important directives of the CPC Central Committee on epidemic prevention and control, extend a helping hand, and contribute their compassion—demonstrating social responsibility through our caring actions and embodying universal love through concrete deeds—in order to make our own contribution to winning the battle against the epidemic.

　　As soon as the Appeal was posted in the WeChat group of the Shanghai Municipal Housing Architectural Design Institute, all Party members, League members, young employees, and all staff responded enthusiastically: “When one region is in need, support comes from all directions!” The most common sentiment expressed was, “It’s only right—we should do our small part.” Even a former employee, upon learning of the initiative, joined the fundraising effort, saying, “As a Party member, this is simply what I ought to do.” What remarkably humble words! They fully demonstrate the sense of responsibility and commitment among our Institute’s Party members and employees. To date, a total of 152 individuals have contributed, with combined donations amounting to RMB 98,850. In addition, the leadership of the Shanghai Municipal Housing Architectural Design Institute has decided to make an additional corporate donation of RMB 70,000, which will be channeled through the Putuo District Branch of the Shanghai Charity Foundation to fund the district’s special emergency fund for novel coronavirus prevention and control. Furthermore, several Party members have paid a one-time special Party membership fee, which will be forwarded through the Putuo District Organization Department to the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.

　　Each of these donations is not only a heartfelt act of kindness by all Party members and employees of the design institute, but also a microcosm of the compassion shown by every ordinary person who has been quietly following and supporting epidemic prevention and control. What everyone wants to convey is that, although we cannot rush to the front lines, we can still contribute our love and warmth. Though the epidemic is merciless, human hearts are full of compassion. With united resolve, we will overcome these difficult times together. Under the leadership of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, we will surely win this battle against the epidemic—a war fought without gunfire!
