The Shanghai Municipal Institute of Architectural Design was founded in the 1950s and reestablished in March 1987. It is affiliated with the Shanghai Municipal Housing and Land Resources Administration and was transformed into a limited liability company in 2004. Over the past three decades, the institute has grown into a multidisciplinary, comprehensive Class-A architectural design research institute with a full range of specialties and strong technical capabilities.

Judicial Expertise Center of Shanghai Municipal Housing Design Institute Co., Ltd. ， Leveraging the technical resources of the Shanghai Municipal Institute of Housing Architecture in investment consulting, design, and inspection and appraisal, the organization specializes in research on forensic expertise in construction projects and undertakes forensic appraisal assignments on behalf of case-handling authorities nationwide. It currently serves as a vice-president unit of the Shanghai Association of Forensic Experts, a vice-president unit of the Shanghai Society for Theoretical Research in Forensic Science, and a vice-chairman unit of the editorial board of the journal “Chinese Forensic Science.”

The Forensic Appraisal Center employs more than 40 researchers and 29 licensed forensic appraisers, over 70% of whom hold the title of senior engineer or higher and all possess relevant professional registration as engineers. Each appraiser has extensive, long-term experience in construction engineering appraisal, design, construction, project management, consulting services, and research, with a solid theoretical foundation and rich practical expertise. In recent years, the Center has assisted law-enforcement agencies in completing more than 1,500 forensic appraisal assignments, placing it at the forefront of the field of construction engineering forensic appraisal in Shanghai.
