Shangfang Courtyard Awarded the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Shanghai

Over the years, Shanghai Municipal Housing Architectural Design Institute Co., Ltd. has not only adhered to a market-oriented, customer-centric approach and prioritized quality-driven development in its operations, but has also placed great emphasis on technological advancement and innovation. At this year’s Shanghai Science and Technology Awards Conference, outstanding scientists and engineers who have made remarkable contributions to Shanghai’s scientific and technological innovation as well as its economic and social development were solemnly commended. Our project, “Research and Development and Wide-Scale Application of a Complete Set of Technologies for Self-Insulating, High-Strength Prefabricated Masonry Blocks,” was awarded the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress by the Shanghai Municipal Government.
This project aims to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction, large-scale application, and industrialization by innovatively developing a new type of green self-insulating wall material. The material utilizes industrial waste and construction debris as raw materials, thereby realizing comprehensive resource utilization; it integrates thermal insulation with structural performance, ensuring that the insulation system has the same service life as the building itself; it also introduces innovative construction techniques, in which masonry units are interlocked via a tongue-and-groove connection, fundamentally transforming conventional masonry practices; furthermore, a complete set of theoretical calculation methods and structural detailing systems for building structures has been established.
This achievement has been subject to a technical novelty search by the Shanghai Institute of Scientific and Technical Information and was found to be “domestically leading and reaching the internationally advanced level.” To date, it has resulted in the development of three local standards for Shanghai Municipality, two local standards for Jiangxi Province and Sichuan Province, and one national standard design. Notably, the Shanghai Municipal Local Standard “Technical Requirements for Concrete Formwork-Block Masonry” was awarded the Second Prize of the Shanghai Municipal Outstanding Technical Achievement Award in Standardization in 2017; in 2018, this achievement received the Gold Award for the 30th Shanghai Municipal Outstanding Invention; also in 2018, it was granted the First Prize for Innovative Technology by the Shanghai Construction Association; and in 2019, it was conferred the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.
Currently, masonry units are manufactured on fully automated, intelligent production lines using standardized molds and integrated with information technology, enabling the factory assembly of wall panels in various specifications that meet design requirements. These panels are then lifted and installed on-site, significantly reducing wet-work on construction sites and delivering clear cost advantages when applied to projects.
